Damn Technicalities!
Well, despite my best efforts I will not be taking the P.E. in April. I was going through my experience and by April 15 (the exam date) I will have been out of college for 3 years and 11 months. Tack 6 months credit on to that for being in an accredited Co-op program and I would have 4 years and 5 months experience. Take 4 months off of that for working on Dad’s farm for the summer and taking one month of graduate school and I’m back to 4 years and 1 month. Now back track to January 15 (the application deadline) I would only have 3 years 10 months, at that date, of officially verifiable engineering experience and now I’m in a pickle. You are required by law to have 4 years of verifiable engineering experience, but you’re not allowed to anticipate experience and therefore you must have your 4 years experience prior to the date of application.
So, I talked to the lady in Montgomery who is the designated answerer of questions for the board and without hesitation she stated that I would not be approved to take the exam in April. I have now suffered a six month set-back in my quest to be a licensed Civil Engineer.
Oh well, them’s the breaks.
Thanks for tuning in.
…We could always feed her to a bear.
