Kilt me a man, and already I’m starting to feel the itch! Problem is, I aint got nothin’ to scratch. I feel I’m gettin’ weakah, while Charlie’s growin’ strongah! I had to face the cold hard reality! I gotta get a job!
Want me to show you a little trick, take your mind off that pain?
Hi. Geofro here.
Comment spammers … you can piss off. I just hooked Todd’s stuff up.
Bitch at me if anything breaks, people. [Yes, Todd, the administration area of WordPress is absolutely, utterly different. But you’ll get used to it pretty quick-like.]
PEACE!
I can respect both sides of the argument that rages today on just about everyone’s blog, and I can actually understand many of the reasons that both sides have for their respective arguments. What I can’t understand and really have a hard time tolerating is the lack of respect that we have for each other.
The United States is run on a majority rules system. However, it was not intended to be the majority craps on minority because we can system. I keep seeing a mentality that if you’re not on my side then you’re an idiot and I wonder how people think that attitude is productive. I wonder what gives people the right to say, “If you don’t like it you can move to Canada!” We are all Americans and this country belongs to ALL of us!
Like it or not, if you can convince enough people that you’re right then your idea will pass and the opposite holds true. Therefore if one party fails to win an election the blame lies on that party for failing to convince enough people that they are right. The work remains for them to continue to try to convince people to believe in them and to vote for them. That in mind, alienating them by calling them names out of frustration hardly seems productive.
I will reiterate the fact that I now firmly believe our country went to war with Iraq for the wrong reasons, but I remain hopeful that in time something good can be achieved. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” comes to mind and forces me to believe that we ALL must come together to convince our people, our governments, and our President that we should do what is right to secure and make safe the citizens and country of Iraq. We must do this for the Iraqi people, for the American people and for the rest of the world.
Many people agree that we went to war in Iraq for the wrong reasons. Many people believe that this administration (really we as a country because we as country elected this administration) bit off more than we can chew and many people throughout the world believe that we will fail. This is precisely why we MUST succeed! We must succeed because failure would be devastating to our country, failure would (as Osama says) expose the soft underbelly of what was once a great nation, and failure would take away what little credibility we still have in the world.
Alienating those who oppose us is a sure way to fail in all that we as a country must do. On the other hand, working with them to understand where the misunderstandings and disagreements are and repairing them will be the road to achievement far greater than our country has ever seen in the past. We set aside our differences to become the United States of America 200 plus years ago. We set aside our differences in both World Wars to do great things. Today we must set aside our differences again.
Kerry Concedes! While I admittedly voted for him, I think it was in the best interests of the country that he concede the election to “Dubya.” I think if you do the math, there was no way that he was actually going to win, but if Kerry had somehow taken Ohio and won the Electoral Vote then the country would have definitely been in some serious @#$% because Bush would have still had a 3 million vote lead in the popular vote.
I think Kerry was a good candidate but the general consensus seems to be that everyone had a “Gut” feeling about him that wasn’t good. His campaign failed miserable to paint him as someone you could trust and while no one really trusts Bush they atleast know what they’re getting. I do wish that Bush would clean house in his cabinet and get some better people on board.
Okay, I’ve had my lunch, I’ve got all the spam cleared out and everything has settled down so now I’ll speak my mind on the election. I stated in a previous post that I wasn’t satisfied with either candidate and while there has been a lot of change in my thought process the statement still holds, but not for the same reasons as before. I know that probably doesn’t make a lot of sense, but bare with me and hopefully I’ll be able to better explain myself. See in September when I made that statement I’ll admit that I had not done enough research to completely understand both candidates, or at least have a real good feel for where they’re going. Today, I’m happy to say that I’ve done a lot more studying on the subject and I feel like I have a better idea of what needs to be done and where this country needs to go. I also have a lot more knowledge of the candidates. When I went to the polls today I was still undecided, I was leaning towards one candidate but Geof planted a seed in my head and I wanted to make sure that when I went to the poles I actually was making the right decision by voting FOR the candidate that would do the best job as President instead of voting against the guy that I didn’t think could do the job.
Well, Jackie is moved and working on settling in to his new apartment in Alpharetta. He really seems to be enjoying his job over there and I think this is wonderful opportunity for him. The house is pretty empty right now, I only have my chair in the living room and the office is pretty bare now that Jackie’s huge desk is gone. I’m planning on finally putting my whole desk together though, so the office will be complete in another couple of days and the living room will have furniture eventually.
Work has been pretty slow lately, I guess we’re at the end of a fiscal year and ramping into the new one so there’s not really any project money right now and that means we don’t have much to do for the time being. I’m sure it will pick up soon though.
I think I’m back to being 50-50 on going to Colorado for 4 months. The start date for construction out there keeps getting pushed back, the design is on hold because the contractor screwed some things up and the guy I was replacing could be back from Iraq. Just some of the things that could keep me home in the spring. I wouldn’t be too dissappointed though.
I’m thinking really hard about sitting for the PE in April instead of waiting until October of next year. The whole test is a logistical nightmare, but I think I’d like to have it behind me and never have to think about it again. If I can manage that the only objective I’ll have remaining will be my Master’s degree.
There’s a lot going on outside of work that keeps me busy, but happy. Work is boring and not so happy of late, but like I said I’m sure that will change soon enough. Atleast I’m getting to stay home for a while. I haven’t traveled since the middle of October and it’s looking like I won’t travel again for a while.
Well that’s about all I have for now. I did vote and I’ll probably release the who and why at some point, but I don’t feel like messing with it right now.
Anyone who has paid any attention to this website over the last couple of days has probably noticed that I’ve had about 300+ comments added by an on-line poker/blackjack/whatever comment spam attack. This has brought to my attention the need to do some regulating. For the time being I’ll be disabling comments on all existing posts and any adminitstative type posts like this one will be closed to comments as well. Also, I’ll be closing all posts older than 7 days for comment. If you have something you want to say in response to an older post, please feel free to email me and I will add the comment.
