Man I hate the backspace key.
Okay, I’m dumb. I’ve screwed this post up three times now. For some reason I’ve been hitting the tab key followed by the backspace key and it’s wiping out my posts. Nothing wrong with the software only the operator.
Anyway, I’ve been on the road a lot lately so I haven’t had a lot of time to post. I figured I’d try to post an update on my life and let everyone that I haven’t already talked to know what’s been going on.
I’m going to North Carolina again next Monday and I’ll be up there all week. I’ve been working on setting it up so I can drive because I want to be able to take my bike with me. I’ve desperately missed riding over the last two months and I want to get back into the good habits I had last summer of riding everyday.
I did sell my truck and after a lot of hard searching and thought I decided to buy a Camry. It’s an ‘04 model, but it was used so it already had over 9000 miles on it. I bought the warranty upgrade for about $500 so I have 89,800 miles of bumper to bumper warranty remaining. Some of the people that have only known me to drive a truck have asked me if I miss the truck now that it’s gone and the answer to that question is, without hesitation, NO. I loved my truck, but I hated a lot of things about it. I felt like I was led to selling the truck and I felt led to buying what I bought and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I thoroughly enjoy driving my car and I’m as comfortable in the driver’s seat as I was in the truck and more comfortable in the passenger seat. Anyway, enough about that.
This weekend Sarah and Jackie and Jonathan and I went to Smith Lake. It was an enjoyable but not uneventful weekend. I found out that Nanook has heart worms on Friday so he stayed at the Vet Friday night, the first night we were at the lake. Saturday, Sarah and I drove back to Huntsville to pick him up and bring him down to the lack. He needs to be kept fairly calm and he need to have a pretty close eye kept on him, not to mention the medicine he has to take. I figured I could still enjoy the weekend at the lake and he would enjoy the company, so we loaded him up in the car and took him down there. Saturday night, we were getting ready to turn in and a storm was starting to blow up. I decided that I’d better take Nanook for a walk and let him do his business before I put him in the screen porch of the tent. While I was gone I noticed that the wind was picking up and the storm was getting closer, but I didn’t pay that much attention because it wasn’t that bad. I found out otherwise when I got back to the tent and found Sarah, Jackie and Jonathan working to get it back up. Apparently there was a strong gust of wind while I was gone that snapped about 4 of 6 tent poles. So, we loaded up what we could, including Nanook and headed home in some of the worst rain I’ve ever driven in.
Sunday Morning Sarah and I headed back down to the lake. We left Nanook behind because we were heading back to Huntsville Sunday evening after the fireworks show. It was a very nice day and the Fireworks were AWESOME.
Monday I started cutting grass in the morning and in the afternoon Sarah started helping try to regain control of the garden. Things were going pretty well, we had the tomatoes staked, the weeds out from around them and the squash, I weed ate around the rest of the rows and we were about to start stringing up the peas when we hit a snag. I was driving the stakes to hold the string and I got three of four in the ground. When I started to drive the fourth one in the ground, I hit what I thought was a rock. No big deal, I moved the stake and started to drive it again. Again, I hit a rock. I moved the stake again and before I hit it one time with the sledge hammer I start seeing water boiling up from the previous location where I thought I’d hit a “Rock.” So, we spent the afternoon repairing the waterline to the house. I took it as an opportunity and we dug a trench and ran additional water line to a new spigot on the shed. I figured it would be nice to have a place to connect the hose where I didn’t have to run it all the way across the yard to water the garden.
Anyway, that’s pretty much it. Life is busy but good. I’m hoping to get to spend some time up at Dad’s place the weekend after my trip to Raleigh. Seems weird the thought of driving to Raleigh, spending a week there, driving back and then turning around the same day and driving to Boone. But, it would be really nice to get see Dad and Melissa. I just hope they aren’t too busy, though I would totally understand if they were.
Oh well, we shall see what life holds in store in the near future.
